Marketers of Cooking Gas Blame Increasing Prices On Importation

Image
Cooking gas marketers on Wednesday blamed its increasing prices on massive importation, causing anguish to end users. In the past few weeks, it costs between N4,200 and N4,500 to refill a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas, up from between N3,600 and N3,800.Mr Bassey Essien, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, said in a statement is Lagos that “Nigeria consumes about one million metric tonnes of cooking gas annually, but 65 per cent of it is imported. “The CBN has no dedicated window for foreign exchange for cooking gas importers, hence the sourcing of foreign exchange at a high price which ultimately dictates the price the product gets to consumers.“This brings to the fore, our persistent request for the full domestication of cooking gas supply to guide against price manipulations by international market and foreign exchange forces. The price of 20 metric tonnes of cooking gas initially rose from N4 million to N5 million then to N5.3 mill

The lawmakers who spoke bitterly over the killing decided to summon the president.   The following day, House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed that Buhari had agreed to address the lawmakers but that a date had not been fixed for it yet. “We have agreed on a date and he will meet with the House to address the situation. We have a fixed date but we will communicate with you. “He is a perfect democrat; he will come to the House to address members in the nearest future,” Gbajabiamila had said. THE Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has denied that it reached an agreement with the federal government to suspend its ongoing strike on December 9, 2020. The Union insisted that contrary to insinuation to that effect, there was never an understanding with the government that it would suspend the over 9 months old action on the said date. President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi in a statement made available to newsmen Wednesday night, said ASUU representatives do not have the powers to suspend or call off industrial action but must follow due process which includes transmitting the outcome of negotiations to members and National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU for further deliberations and actions. While noting that ASUU was willing to cooperate with concerned authorities to ensure suspension of the strike once the welfare and wellbeing of ASUU members and survival of public universities were sufficiently guaranteed, he said It was a needless crisis which had happened beca
